Did Turbo Tax trick you into a Credit Karma Account?

Complaints are popping up all across the Internet. I will NEVER use Turbo Tax again.

I feel I was tricked by Turbo Tax into Signing up for Credit Kharma. Like I had too. And the latter is now telling me when I am getting a Refund. I didn’t want them in my business. Anywhere near my Refund. I don’t and didn’t ask for it early.

I don’t know them. And here’s another write by another upset user of Turbo Tax-

TurboTax (TT) waits till the end of filing to dangle the Credit Karma Hook also they kind of hide getting around it. My refund this year was substantial due to Solar Panel install, so more than 20k. I asked for the advance to pay my mortgage, was denied. So the IRS deposited all the cash at Credit Karma (CK) which bought me access 5 days early. But guess what? CK only allows transfers to your bank in the amount of $1000 at a time….and that takes 2-3 business days each time. And they charge you 1.75% each time, on 20k that’s $400. Alternatively, you can pay your mortgage or bill using the CK debit card they give you but don’t be surprised if your mortgage company or other bill is not on the list of companies that will accept it. This is a VERY short list…. To recap, the deal you took to get your money 5 days sooner, now takes WAY longer to get like 30-90 days, costs you money and aggravates the living bejeezes out of you. ALL the while, they get to use your money free of charge until you manage to drain it. What a RACKET! I will never use either company EVER again.

It sounds like you and the others are sharing frustrations with how Credit Karma Money, linked with TurboTax, handled your tax refunds. Here’s a breakdown of the situation:

  • Credit Karma Money Integration: TurboTax might present Credit Karma Money as a convenient option during tax filing. However, it can feel like you’re pushed into it without full transparency.
  • Early Access vs. Transfer Limitations: Credit Karma Money offers faster access to your refund, but transferring larger amounts or using the debit card for specific bills might be limited.
  • Fees and Transfer Times: Transferring large sums from Credit Karma Money can incur fees and take multiple business days.

Here are some suggestions for you:

  • Contact Credit Karma Support: They might be able to offer solutions for your specific situation. You can find their contact information on their Help Center https://help.creditkarma.com/.
  • Research Next Year’s Tax Filing: Consider alternatives to TurboTax that don’t integrate with Credit Karma Money if it doesn’t suit your needs. Research and compare tax filing services beforehand.
  • Traditional Refund Routing: You might be better off choosing a traditional method for receiving your tax refund directly into your preferred bank account.

While Credit Karma Money offers faster access, the limitations on transfers and fees can be a hassle. It’s important to weigh the pros and cons before opting for it during tax filing.

I felt I was trapped into it. How about you?
