But, did you also know that-It includes opposition movements, such as the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by the late Alexei Navalny, as well as the “international LGBTQ+ movement.” Animal Sex is okay, but don’t mention the feared homosexual act with the same sex. While there is no specific law titled “Zoophilia,” sex with an animal can be prosecuted under Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: “Cruel treatment of animals.”

The law states that a person can be held criminally liable if their actions involve cruel treatment of an animal that results in its death or mutilation. The key elements for prosecution under this article are:

  • Cruelty: The act must be considered “cruel treatment” (жестокое обращение). This is a broad term that can include causing pain and suffering.
  • Consequences: The act must lead to the animal’s death or permanent injury (mutilation).
  • Motive: The cruel act must be committed with the purpose of causing pain or suffering, out of hooliganism, or for commercial gain.

There have been proposals from some public initiatives in Russia to add a specific clause to Article 245 that would directly outlaw zoosexual relations, regardless of whether the animal is physically harmed. However, as of my current information, the law has not been amended to include this specific ban.

Therefore, while the act of bestiality itself is not a standalone crime, it would almost certainly be prosecuted as a form of animal cruelty if any harm or death came to the animal as a result.
