• Famine Declaration: The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a global initiative with UN backing, has confirmed that famine is present in Gaza governorate and is projected to expand to other areas in the coming weeks.² The IPC and other UN agencies describe this as a “man-made” disaster and a “failure of humanity itself.”³
• Widespread Malnutrition: There are widespread reports of malnutrition, especially among children.⁴ UNICEF and the WHO have reported a drastic increase in acute malnutrition cases among children under five.⁵ Health officials have attributed hundreds of deaths to malnutrition or violence at food aid distribution sites.⁶
• Aid Access: International aid agencies, including UN bodies, continue to face significant challenges and impediments in getting aid to the people who need it.⁷ Reports from aid groups detail that missions are often delayed, impeded, or denied by Israeli authorities.⁸ Some organizations state that the amount of aid entering is vastly insufficient to meet the needs of the population.⁹
• Differing Perspectives on Aid: While aid agencies and UN officials have widely condemned the lack of access and pace of delivery, Israeli officials have stated that they have allowed a sufficient amount of aid to enter.
