Mountain Gorillas.

I watched Dian Fossey on a rerun of Johnny Carson from 1985. Dr. Fossey’s book, Gorillas in the Mist had just come out in 1983 and she was spreading the word about these Wonderful Primates.

Although Dr. Fossey’s work ended tragically with her murder, her book remains an enthralling testament to one of the longest field studies of primates, covering fifteen years in the lives of four gorilla families in Central Africa.

According to the Rwandan authorities, it was Mr Zigiranyirazo, a local government official, who ordered her murder. Fossey’s mutilated body was found in her cabin at the Karisoke research centre in Rwanda, the isolated park where she had monitored the gorilla population for 18 years.
