Trump, himself, is the reason a Peace Deal with Iran cannot be done. Not Oman!

The Bombing Threat Against Oman

In an interview with Fox News reporter Trey Yingst, Donald Trump issued an explicit military threat against Oman, stating:

“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them.”

He followed up to reporters by claiming Oman hadn’t “behaved very well” and asserted the U.S. could “handle them very easily,” marking his second overt threat against the Sultanate (having previously warned in May that the U.S. might have to “blow them up”).

The Role of Oman vs. The Current Stalemate

  • A Historic Diplomatic Bridge: For decades, Oman has functioned as the indispensable neutral intermediary and backchannel between the United States and Iran. Muscat brokered the initial talks that enabled the 2015 JCPOA and consistently provided a quiet diplomatic corridor to de-escalate Persian Gulf crises. http://www.ft.com
  • The Hormuz Navigation Talks: Oman flanks the southern side of the Strait of Hormuz, directly opposite Iran. Muscat has engaged in bilateral technical talks with Tehran to establish manageable shipping coordinates and maritime protocols to restore global transit through the vital oil chokepoint. • The Negotiation Impasse: The 60-day diplomatic window established under the June 17 Memorandum of Understanding expired without a comprehensive agreement. While Trump portrays Omani–Iranian maritime coordination as obstructionism, diplomats and regional observers view it as a practical attempt to keep commercial shipping afloat amid escalating military hostility and a reimposed U.S. naval blockade. Threatening to bomb a non-belligerent Gulf ally directly undermines the primary diplomatic channel required to broker any lasting de-escalation with Tehran. Coverage and detailed breakdowns of the diplomatic fallout can be tracked via The Guardian and Financial Times.
